Jeep History; Transformation of the Willy's Jeep to the current Wrangler and other Jeep models.
Jeep has had a tough battle in ensuring that it has held it flag high in the air. Were it not for their resilience they would probably have been forgotten long ago. The journey began in the 1940 when the Willy Jeep was produced by the Willys-Overland Motor Co to date where it ownership and production is carried on by a multi-national corporation known as Stellantis.
On 16th July 1941 in the automotive realm, Willys -Overland Motor Co of Toledo, Ohio produced the first USA military Jeep under Karl Probst who was a freelancer auto designer from Detroit. On the battlefield, the vehicle was not only nimble and tough but also fast and could handle nearly all the terrains. The vehicle was an 1840 pounds Bantam that towed anti-tank weapons and could be mounted with a machine gun. Interestingly, it was also used as an ambulance and it could ford rivers and traverse the lakes.

As World War II got tough, there was the need to come up with an improvised new rivalry vehicle. There was a request for an automaker to collaborate and improve the Willy Military Jeep. It was at this period that the Willys Overland Co and Ford Motor got in and each designed an improved version of the Willy Jeep. Willys Quad made an impressive improvement on the vehicle. They made a 60hp 4 cylinder unit which made them win the bid to manufacture more military vehicles.
In later years, more units were produced by both Willys and Ford in the long run of World War II. Both manufacturers made more than 637,000 to participate in the war and Bantam was given the contract of making the quarter-ton trailers that were pulled by the Willy MB. As World War II winded down, the executives of Willy thought about making Jeep units that would still continue being after even the wars. It was then that Willy modified the MB and introduced headlights, seats, as well as the tailgate. This model was known as Willy CJ-2A. Notably, the first station wagon was made in 1946 and a Jeep pick-up was made in 1947.
Jeeps continued to be made and the civilian models of vehicles started to be produced. In 1957 Willys Overland Co produced the 1957 Jeep FC (Forward Control). As Willys advanced in their products, they released a Wagoneer SUV in 1963 and also a Wagoneer pick up. These developmements did not stop the automaker from producing military units. They made big steps and continued making military vehicles.
The Jeep's ownership was not stable and there was an automaker that got interested in the Willys-Overland Co., Kaiser Manufacturers Co. purchased the Willys-Overland Co and took over the production of the Willy's Jeep vehicles. Kaiser's purchase of the Willy's company also led to change and drop of the name Willys in the Jeep vehicle manufacture. In 1963 the Kaiser's took to the name Kaiser-Jeep-Corp. This however did not last long after Kaiser were also bought by American Motors in 1963.
Maintaining and continuation of the Jeep by AMC also got challenging. Renautt purchased 25% of the struggling AMC automaker Renautt made and brought along big steps in the Jeep performance and sales in the automotive industry. Jeep sales shot up and became very pleasant in the lineup of the AMC. In this period the XJ Cherokee was debuted in the year of 1984. It became very acceptable in the market since it was very outstanding and there was no such any other model from any automaker. It's production run for 18 years where it got as far as year of 2001 and by then 2.7 million units had been manufactured.
The next ownership of Jeep from AMC was taken up by the smart and strategic Chrysler Corp which was headed by Lee Iacocca.Chrysler utilised it resources to build on the existing products like the XJ Cherokee which was predecessed by the ZJ Cherokee. Jeep continued to skyrocket in the industry and it got to a point of interesting Daimler AG. This saw to a collaboration of the two with an investment of $38 billion. They formed the DaimlerChrysler that did well.

A fate befall on Jeep when a decade later, Daimler paid $675 million to the Cerberus Capital Management to take over both of Chrysler and Jeep from it. Jeep had to seek for a quick alternative to get protection from bankruptcy. Luckily they reached to their governmment which gladly came to their rescue. In 2009 Chrysler rose from their bankruptcy when the CEO of FIAT, Sergio Marchionne recognized the value as well as global potentiality of Jeep.
Marchionne improved and focused on mending the challenges that faced the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. He kept much into the Grand Cherokee whereby he improved on the interior of the vehicle. He worked on the electrical architecture as well as the power train of the vehicle. He killed the Jeep Commander and termed it as innapropriate for human consumption. Under his supervision and power he had the Commmander replaced by Jeep Cherokee. This made a great history in the Jeep company as this was the first sub-compact Jeep to be manufactured on the platform of Fiat under the Fiat Jeep.
Jeep has since then been doing great in producing other Jeeps like Renegades, however it has changed ownership again where it is owned by a multi-national corporation known as Stellantis. Jeep looks to pruducing more of modern Jeep pick-ups like the Jeep Gladiator. They have also brought to life the Jeep Grand Wogoneer set to compete with luxury SUV vehicles. FiatChrysler continued production of Jeep Wrangler where there are ten trims of the Jeep Wranglers that start from the Sport version to the latest V8 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392.
