It has varying drivetrain and platforms depending on the region. The four engines available are all based on the Honda's L-series engine clan. These engines are 1.2l, 1.3l, 1.4l,1.5l I-DSI engine or 1.5l Variable valve  Timing and lift Electronic Control (VTEC) and also a DOHC i-VTEC.

First Generation (2001;GD/GE)

The Honda Fit first-generation was debuted at Japan in June 2001. It was

available  in both manual and automatic transmission . It was made

to compete with some similar class of cars like the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa,

Suzuki Reno, Dodge Caliber, Kia Rio5 and Hyundai accent. It was built on the

global Honda's Small Car platform used by other Hondas mentioned above.

    It was manufactured and was available in 1.2-, 1.3-, 1.4-, and 1.5- L i-DSI or 1.5L

VTEC model engines. The 1.5L VTEC engine had four-cylinders that produced 109

HP and 105 lb of torque. The interior of this generation was classy  which made it

an outstanding hatchback. It was quick-witted in its entire moves. Back seats were

folded into Utility Mode while the front seats were reclined into what Honda

dubbed as Refresh Mode.  This first generation was awarded top 5-star Safety

rating by NHTSA. It has Anti lock braking system(ABS), Power Steering, Power

mirror, Door mirror, Dual airbags, power windows, Central locking system, Air

conditioning, CD player with radio and dual airbags.

Second Generation(2007;GE/GG)

The second generation of the Honda Fit debuted on October 2007. This generation

was focused on refinement. Having been an improvement from the 1st generation,

it did well and outshined it peer competitors. It impressed and won the second

time Japanese Car of the Year. Cargo space volume was increased from 42 cu. ft.

to pleasantly 57.3 cu. ft. The ride quality and stiffness was improved in this model.

The interior was improved too and gave it a sleek and sportier style. The car had a

longer wheelbase and was longer and wider than it predecessor.

It came in two engines; the A 1.3L i-VTEC which produced 99Hp equivalent to  74

kW at 6000 rpm 127 N.m. The A 1.5L i-VTEC engine produced 118Hp; 88kW at

6000 rpm and 145 N.m. Later on the Hybrid version was introduced in 2010 in

Japan. New features like USB inputs and dual gloveboxes made it worth for

entertainment. It improved also on it fuel economy that made it hold it high

demand. This generation brought forth the variant station wagon model known as

Third Generation( 2013;GK/GH/GP)

This generation copied styling from her big brother Odyssey. This model was improved

version of the two predecessors. It came in a quicker, more fuel-efficient package and a

safer package. The fuel tank came located in the center and had a multi-configuration

interior concept that was referred to as magic seat. This model has also debuted the

Honda's updated design language dubbed as Exciting H Design. The 3 exclamatory marks

in EXCITING H DESIGN represents three design factors ; High Tech-solid wing face,

High Tension-well toned body in athlete form  and High Touch- providing emotional

 attraction.

It has an improved leg room for rear seats and well as increased passenger volume making

and excellent and amazing combination. This implies their take of advantage to every

square inch of interior space. But this sacrificed the rear cargo space of the boot.

Subcompact cars have less technology and have cheaper materials unlike this Honda that

has Honda Sensing Safety features for the EX or EX-L models and optional leather heated

 seats.

Fourth Generation(2020;GR/GS)

This fourth generation of Honda Fit is embedded by high technology. It also has large

windshield that enables optimal forward visibility. Front pillar is redesigned with a cross

sectional structure that is unique from other generations. This has been explained by Honda

that it helps to absorb impact absorption incase of an accident. The dashboard of this car

is flat and visor-less instrument display. This ensures that the driver gets better view of their

surrounding. This model has been developed with an electrification mindset and being

totally hybrid where in some markets like Europe are only available in hybrid variant.

It powertrain is in the market as e:HEV and utilizes the new Honda's dual-motor i-MMD(

Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) Hybrid system which replaced the Dual Clutch Drive (i-

DCD) setup.

Pros and Cons of the Honda Fit

The second generation of Honda Fit had a great improvement from the first generation.

The first generation developed issues from the engines mentioned above that it used. They

later solved this by moving to CVT transmissions. Again when it comes to the third

generation it is very reliable only that it is downsized by CVT transmissions. There are no

many CVT transmission builders and therefore it sees the necessity to buy a new engine.

Other common Honda Fit issues are ignition coil failure, starter failure, slight cases of

power steering failure and clear coat wearing off.

Other than that, with regular and timely oil change and components inspection, Honda Fit will serve

you for over 250,000 miles without serious mechanical problems. The car retains a 4.5 stars reliability

 rating out of five.
